FAQs

What is direct care? It’s as simple as it sounds - direct care between a physician and a patient with no involvement from third parties. Thus, we do not contract with any insurance companies. At Brooklyn Dermatology, you pay based on the timing of your visit with separate pricing for procedures and cosmetics.

Why is it important to see a board-certified dermatologist? A board-certified dermatologist is a physician with many years of specialty training in the field of dermatology. While there is a role for other providers in the practice of medicine, there is a difference in training level amongst physicians vs different providers. Learn more.

How much are visits? Most new medical visits are priced between $225 and $295, considerably lower than the national average cost of a comparable dermatology visit. Hair loss consultations and skin cancer screenings are dedicated, comprehensive visits starting at $295. Follow up visits are generally $125 or $225 depending on complexity. Cosmetic services and procedures have separate pricing found under our Pricing tab.

Can I get reimbursed for my visit? Upon request, we can provide you with a coded receipt. You can submit this to your insurance for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. Not all insurance companies allow reimbursement for services - we cannot predict or guarantee if or how much you will get reimbursed. Please check with your insurance company regarding reimbursement rules. By law, Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries cannot submit for reimbursement.

Can I still use my insurance? We do not accept any insurance plans but we encourage you to use your insurance for labs, prescription medications and pathology from biopsies. You may use your HSA or FSA card as payment for medical services in line with the administrator’s guidelines.

How much time do I get with my doctor? Traditional insurance-based dermatology visits allow for 5-15 minutes of one-to-one time with your doctor. Visits with us are longer and unrushed, usually lasting 20-30 minutes.

What if I need more time? If your appointment needs are beyond the scheduled amount of time, we will happily extend your appointment if time allows and you will be charged for the next highest time slot. However, we will never delay another patient’s appointment to extend yours and will reschedule you in that scenario. We respect all our patients’ time and try our hardest to stay on schedule.

How long do I have to wait to be seen? We are proud to offer same-day and same-week appointments. Once you get to the office, you will experience minimal to no wait times to see the doctor.

Do I need a referral to be seen? No, you can book directly with a board-certified dermatologist without the restrictions of your insurance company.

Can I still see Dr. Kapoor if I have insurance? Absolutely! We welcome you to experience our difference.

Will I see a “provider” at my visit? Absolutely not! You will always see a physician - a board-certified dermatologist at every single visit.
